About

Joanna believes that a beautifully designed garden is more than an outdoor space, it is a vital extension of the home. A well considered garden has the power to transform daily life, drawing people outside, deepening their connection to nature, and offering a sense of calm and renewal.

"It’s not just a pretty view or the scent of a flower. True garden design shapes how people live, bringing balance, beauty, and presence to everyday life."

Her work is distinguished by a painterly approach to planting and a refined sense of spatial composition. With a deep appreciation for colour, texture, and seasonal rhythm, Joanna creates gardens that feel personal, immersive, and enduring.

The studio champions environmentally responsible practices. Joanna encourages natural gardening methods and a pesticide-free ethos, recognising that a thriving ecosystem depends on biodiversity. She proudly supports the 'Say No to Plastic Grass & Plants' campaign, in partnership with the Society of Garden & Landscape Designers and the RHS.

Every project reflects a commitment to quality, quiet luxury, and thoughtful living, designed to enrich the way her clients experience their homes.

Background

Joanna formally launched her studio in 2009 after studying at the prestigious Inchbald School of Design gaining the highly prized Director’s Top Student Award.

Joanna is a Registered Member of the Society of Garden & Landscape Designers, the only professional association for garden designers in the UK. In February 2024 she joined the SGLD Council and is responsible for CPD, ensuring all members continue to enhance their professional growth by acquiring new skills and adapting to industry changes.

Joanna’s studio is fully accredited, insured and subscribes to the highest professional standards and SGLD Code of Conduct. At home she is helped in the garden by her children, Freddie and Lola Leaf while her fantastically mathematical husband, Tim, attends the barbeque.

“Joanna was an absolute delight to work with. She listened well and met our rather challenging brief which involved satisfying cricket mad kids and digging dogs. The design was beyond my expectations. She has a great eye for colour and the planting has established very quickly and looks stunning. Previously I was somewhat embarrassed to have guests in the garden and I now can’t get them to leave as it’s such a lovely space both during the day and after dark with the garden lighting.” C.G.
